0 Two warships to secure Bali waters

As the Christmas and New Year holidays have arrived, security along Bali’s coastlines and in its waters will be tightened with the operation of two warships — KRI Untung Suropati and KRI Ahmad Yani. Navy Col. I Wayan Suarjaya, Denpasar naval base commander, said that 100 navy personnel would be ready to secure the island’s waters.

“Security will be tightened in Bali’s waters and at the entries to Bali, such as at Gilimanuk ferry port in Jembrana, west Bali that connects Bali and Java, and Padang Bai ferry port in Karangasem in east Bali — connecting Bali, Lombok Island and Nusa Tenggara regions,” Suarjaya said. A number of unofficial entry gates through Bali waters onto the island would also be specially guarded. There are several small fishing and cargo harbors in Buleleng regency, as well as small islets, that can be used as gateways to the island. “Until today, there has been no threat of possible terrorist attack in Bali,” the commander said.
