0 Christmas remission proposed for Corby

Schapelle Leigh Corby, the woman known as the “Ganja Queen”, is waiting to see if her proposed Christmas remission is granted. A two-month remission of her sentence has been proposed. “In order to be eligible for remission, there are certain conditions that must be met, including being active in attending religious services and block activities,” said prison head, I Gusti Ngurah Wiratna, on Tuesday. Corby is not the only foreigner waiting for news of a Christmas remission.

Bali Nine member Renae Lawrence has also had a two-month remission proposal submitted. The Law and Human Rights Ministry is required to approve any remission for those convicted in drug or corruption trials based on government regulation No. 28/2006. However, according to Wiratna, the approval has not yet been received. This Christmas, remission proposals have been submitted for 53 prisoners, 23 of whom have been convicted of drug offenses and are still awaiting approval, and 28 convicted of other crimes for whom the remissions have been granted.
