The Bantul regency administration has announced that it will cover the medical expenses of the victims of Thursday’s strong winds. The winds, which struck 10 of the regency’s 17 districts, damaged hundreds of houses, while dozens of people were reportedly injured due to falling debris. A toddler was still in a critical condition after a tree fell on him.
“We will cover all the medical expenses. If the Rp 10 million [US$1,000] fund from the regency health insurance [Jamkesda] cannot cover the expenses, we will pay for the rest,” Bantul Regent Sri Surya Widati said on Friday. Head of the intensive care ward of the PKU Muhammadiyah Bantul hospital, Zainul Arifin, said that the injured toddler, Candra Ardiansyah Maulana, had undergone surgery twice. “He is in intensive care,” he said. He added that Candra’s condition had stabilized but intensive care was still needed to prevent complications.
