The local police have shut down a warnet, a small shop offering customers computer access and Internet connections for an hourly fee, in Banjar village after finding that the owner had been operating an illegal online lottery from the site. The owner of Warnet Permana, identified as I Gusti Putu Suarsana, was arrested and named a suspect on Sunday.
“We are now expanding the investigation to find the other individuals involved in this illegal activity,” Buleleng police chief of operations Comr. Ida Putu Wedanajati said Monday. He disclosed that the police had raided the warnet following a tip off from the public. The officers seized a computer, printer and printed paper containing information on bets placed by the suspect’s clients. They also confiscated cash amounting to Rp 269,000 (US$28).
