Customary village Asah Duren in Jembrana 
regency has been fining food stall owners that operate until midnight. 
Head of Asah Duren village, I Nyoman Gara, said that the village was 
implementing fines of Rp 500,000 (US$52.22) on food stall owners and Rp 
200,000 on their customers. “We want to keep our village secure. This 
regulation has been approved by the villagers and has been included in 
the village’s awig-awig [traditional laws],” said Gara, when he welcomed
 Jembrana regent, I Putu Artha, on Wednesday, as quoted by Antara news 
agency. Gara said the regulation was being enforced by the village 
pecalang (traditional security guards) who patrol the area every night. 
Gara also said that villagers found still hanging out in the streets 
would also be reprimanded.
