A first-grader in an elementary school in South Jakarta is afraid of going to school after his homeroom teacher, identified as Sa, threw a stainless steel ruler at him during class. Mohammad Nabil Syauqi, 7, a student of SDN Srengseng Sawah 06 Pagi elementary school in South Jakarta, had several times asked his parents to move him to another school, caused by probable trauma.
"The latest was yesterday. As he [Nabil] arrived home, he told his mother that his teacher threw a ruler at him," the father, Syahrul Syarif, told reporters on Wednesday. Syahrul said Nabil sustained some injuries on his foot and refused to meet the teacher. He had asked the school to transfer the teacher or report the case to the police Principal Widi Fatimah apologized over the incident and promised to reprimand Sa.
She requested that the student's family make no report to the police. "We will check whether the actions were intentional or not, and hope that this problem can be resolved in a good way," she told a press conference on Wednesday. "However, the authority to transfer a teacher lies with the Education Agency. As of now, we will move Nabil to another classroom."
