The wife of Pipit Candra, a councilor from Banten, is reporting him to her local Integrated Women and Child Protection Service Center for allegedly abandoning her and her child and having an affair. Lusi said she learned about Pipit’s affair in February 2012 when she received a text message informing her about it. She said Pipit, chairman of Commission B of the Lebak District Legislative Council in Banten, was having an affair with a woman with the initials M.I.
“My neighbors have seen this woman, who is a midwife, coming over to my house several times while I was away. “The midwife is now two-months pregnant,” she said. Aside from abandoning her and her 2-year-old daughter, Lusi claimed that she had also experienced domestic violence from her husband and was kicked out of her own house. “My husband told my family that we’re already divorced. He has returned me to my parents,” she said. Lusi said she hoped that her husband would be punished according to the law for his treatment toward her. “I demand that my husband is dismissed as a councillor.
“As the people’s representative he could not become a role model for the people and he has violated Law No. 1/1974 on marriage,” she said. Separately, Pipit denied all allegations leveled against him by his wife and challenged her to prove the allegations. “Ever since I married Lusi, I never committed what she accused me of doing, let alone committed violence,” the Golkar politician said. Pipit said that he would report Lusi back to the authorities if she could not prove her allegations because she had damaged his and his family’s reputation.
However, Pipit admitted that a month ago he and his family had returned Lusi to her parents because he could no longer stay married to her. “One thing is certain, I have returned Lusi to her family,” he said. Pipit is the latest government official to be caught up in marriage controversy President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono recently signed a dismissal letter for Garut district head Aceng Fikri after regional legislators recommended his impeachment. Aceng’s dismissal came as a result of violating ethics and the marriage law due to his four-day marriage to a teenager.
He notoriously divorced her via SMS. The wife of Magelang Deputy Mayor Joko Prasetyo has also reported her husband to the police. The complaint was for domestic violence and committing a common law marriage — without her consent. Joko was dismissed from the organizational structure of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) after he was named a suspect in the case. The National Mandate Party (PAN) also suspended its politician Deni Ramdani Sagara from Tasikmalaya District Legislative Council in December last year.
His wife had reported him for remarrying as well as abandoning her and her children. David, the chairman of the Protection Service Center’s Lebak branch, said that he would follow up the report and summon Pipit soon. “We will summon him soon and we will report it to the Lebak Legislative’s Ethics Council, Lebak district head, Banten governor and Golkar Party Lebak branch,” he explained.
