0 Legislators hungry for…iPad

Members of Buleleng Legislative Council are now busy with procuring their Apple iPad 2 tablets and updating the applications, which has led to a ballooning budget. Around 45 legislators, plus two secretariat officials, were spoiled by the provision of an iPad2 with funding from the 2012 Buleleng regional budget. The purchase of the iPad 2 tablets cost the council Rp 329 million (US$34,000). 

In the local market, an iPad 2 with Wi-Fi, 3G and 32 GB memory is sold for Rp 7 million. The iPads should have been distributed to the members early in the fiscal year of 2012. But, in fact, most of the legislators received their gadget around November 2012 with a smaller memory, sold at only Rp 5.3 million in the local market. Some members of the council were reported to have rejected the iPad that they were given due to the wrong specifications. To make matters worse, legislators are now discussing the possibility of additional funding to upgrade their iPad applications. Each member will get Rp 3 million for this purpose, if the proposal is accepted. What a world.
