0 Inmate escapes from Kerobokan prison

An inmate named Poniman was found to have escaped from Kerobokan penitentiary on Sunday. Wardens only became aware of the incident at 8 a.m. when the patrolling officers checked inmate presence in Block A. During the regular check, officers could not find the man, who had been jailed for one-and-a-half years for theft. “We have swept areas around the jail, but could not find him,” said chief warden Gusti Ngurah Wiratna.

The prisoner, from Jember, East Java, is thought to have escaped from the jail through a hole in the western area, that used to be a garden. Poniman was tasked with taking care of the garden. “We always maintain the condition of the prison to be as secure as possible, but some prisoners are always be looking for a way to escape. We hope we catch him.” He said he had established a special team to investigate the escape and to work together with the police to search for the man.
