Two suspects have been arrested in a fatal robbery of a public minivan
serving Jatinegara, East Jakarta, and Gandaria, South Jakarta. The suspects, Muhammad Irawan and Mukhti Ginanjar, were arrested in Buaran, East Jakarta. The
incident took place at 11 p.m. on Friday, when the suspects allegedly
hijacked the minivan on Jl. DI Panjaitan in East Jakarta. The robbers, with knives in hand, demanded that the passengers hand over their money.
One passenger was stabbed in the foot. Four passengers leapt from the moving minivan to escape. One passenger, Haerudin, 42, died, while the other three were injured. “[The
suspects] will be charged under Article 365 with armed robbery, and
face 12 years’ imprisonment,” East Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr.
Mulyadi Kaharni said as quoted by tempo.co. The robbers denied police statements that said that they had committed similar offenses in the past.
