Passengers of Batavia Airlines’s flight to Batam were left stranded at Soekarno-Hatta Airport on Thursday. The airline company ceased operations as of Thursday after it was officially declared bankrupt on Wednesday. “We are waiting for confirmation from the company but all counters are closed,” said Candra, one of the passengers. The Jakarta-Batam flight was due to depart at 10:15 a.m. from Soekarno-Hatta Airport. Candra said Batavia Air issued no explanation for the cancellation.
The airline’s counters at the airport remain closed and several officers from state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura are stood guard in front of the counters. “Angkasa Pura officials told us that they will provide a bus to take us to Batavia’s counters but we haven’t received any further information,” said Candra as quoted by Antara news agency. He hoped that the airline company could transfer them to other carriers instead of giving back their money. “We want them to transfer us to other airlines.
It’s no use for us to have our money returned,” said Candra. Similarly, Travel Raun Sumatera operator Sudirman said many Batavia passengers declined to cancel their plans. “Many customers have phoned us, about the status of their flights. Many chose to be transferred to other carriers,” he said.(ebf)
