Bali has seen a rising number of tourists from Russia during the year-end holiday, a tour guide said. Made Putrawan, who usually serves Russian tourists, said, as quoted by Antara news agency, they mostly came to Bali by chartered plane starting in late December and stayed in international hotels in Nusa Dua, Jimbaran or Ubud. He said Russian tourists enjoyed visiting tourist destinations, cultural performances and local traditional rituals.
According to the local tourism service, the number of Russian tourists coming directly from Russia reached 7,867 people in October, up from 3,648 people in the previous month. Russian tourists coming to Bali from January to October 2012 reached 60,472 people, or 2.54 percent of total foreign tourists coming to the island, which reached 2,381,990 people. This was a significant rise, at 6,000 per month in 2012, up from only around 5,000 per month the previous year. Russia was among the top 10 countries contributing tourists to Bali, competing with the UK, the US and Taiwan.
