0 X-ray equipment installed at ferry ports

Two X-ray machines will be installed in Bali’s two main ferry ports, Gilimanuk in west Bali and Padang Bai in Karangasem, east Bali, to help prevent security problems during the peak Christmas and New Year holidays. Made Arjaya, chairman of Bali Legislative Council, said that the two pieces of equipment would arrive soon and would be tested before they were delivered to the Bali Police. The purchase of the two X-ray machines cost Rp 57 billion (US$5.9 million) and was important to support the operations run by Bali Police to enforce security measures on the island, especially during holiday seasons.

Gilimanuk and Padang Bai ferry ports will be crowded with thousands of holidaymakers coming to Bali overland from Java and Lombok islands. Meanwhile, five days preceding Christmas, traffic at Gilimanuk Port was still normal. Wahyudi Susianto, general manager of PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry, said that the number of buses, public and private vehicles entering Bali via Gilimanuk Port remained normal. “We are anticipating an increase in passengers and vehicles in the next few days, approaching the New Year,” Susianto said. There will be 35 ferries operating during the holiday season. “Security will be tightened at this facility,” he added.
